What is Loose Flange(Lap Joint Flange)?

Loose flange, also called lap joint flange, is a kind of flange that can be placed on the pipe end for movement. The flanging or steel ring is the sealing face, the function of the flange is to press them, but does not contact any medium. The loose flange is a key component for a wide range of industries, such as chemical, construction, water supply and drainage, light industry, stainless acid-resistant steel container connection and corrosion resistant pipeline.

The loose flange needs to be used with flat or butt welded rings. Firstly, inserting the loose flange into the pipe body, then welding the flat or butt welded ring with the pipe body. The part of the loose flange is in an active state, so it can be adjusted easily when docking with other flanges. However, the connecting way by flat or butt welded ring, resulting in the lower pressure rating, is generally used in low pressure pipelines.

There are many materials that can be used to make loose flanges, such as carbon steel ,stainless steel, alloy steel, etc. The choice of material depends on factors, such as pressure, temperature, and the nature of the fluid or gas being transported.

Slip on loose flange has the advantages of convenient construction, easy welding and handling, and the disadvantages are low pressure in the pipe and low strength at the welding place, especially when the thickness is below 3mm.
