What is Tubing & Casing(OCTG)?

OCTG stands for Oil Country Tubular Goods, which is used for the production of oil and gas (drilling activities), both onshore and offshore. It mainly includes casing pipe, tubing, drill pipe three kinds, which are manufactured according to the specifications set by API (American Petroleum Institute).
The API 5CT tubing & casing steel pipes are designed to withstand harsh environments and extreme temperatures, making them suitable for use in oil and gas exploration and production. Tubing is used for transporting the oil or gas from the reservoir to the surface ground. Tubing pipes generally have a smaller diameter than casing. Casing is used to line the borehole. They not only protect the soil and groundwater layers from contamination, but also stabilize the borehole.
Metleader produces tubing and casing steel pipes made from high quality steel materials, which have the advantages of high resistance corrosion and erosion performance, so they can resist special conditions, while ensuring long-lasting stability. Our OCTG products can be either seamless or welded, and available in different sizes, grades and lengths to meet specific customer requirements.
The main types of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG)

OCTG tubing pipe
OCTG tubing pipe - transporting oil and gas to the surface ground. Tubing is a relatively small diameter steel pipe that is available in various sizes ranging from 1 1/4” to 4.5”. It is placed inside the wellbore through the casing pipe to transport natural gas or crude oil from an oil or gas layer to the surface ground after the drilling is complete. Tubing must be adequately strong to withstand the pressure generated from the extraction process.

OCTG casing pipe
OCTG casing pipe - stabilize the wellbore. Casing pipe is a large diameter steel pipe with the diameter range from 4.5” to 20”, which is used to drill into the ground for procuring oil or gas and stabilizing the wellbore. It is cemented into the borehole to protect both subsurface formations and the well bore from collapsing and to allow drilling fluid to circulate and extraction to take place.

OCTG drill pipe
OCTG drill pipe - pipe for drilling. Drill pipe is a seamless steel pipe with a hollow section and thin-walled, which is available in various sizes, strengths and wall thicknesses. It allows drilling fluid to be pumped down the hole through the bit and back up the annulus, fluids circulate easily in the well because of the annulus. And drilling pipe can be used multiple times In the mining and oil and gas refining process.
Tubing & Casing(OCTG) material:

Stainless steel casing pipe & tubing
Stainless steel material has the advantages of corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, high overall strength and not easy to deformation, so the stainless steel casing & tubing are widely used in Marine development and other fields. The common stainless steel materials are 304, 316, 321 and so on.

Alloy steel casing pipe & tubing
Alloy steel material has the advantages of high strength, corrosion resistance, high temperature and high pressure, etc., so the alloy steel casing & tubing are widely used for the production and development of oil and gas wells. The common materials refer to Cr-Mo alloy steel, Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steel and so on.
Applications
The main application scenarios of tubing & casing pipe are almost all related to oil and gas exploration projects. There are main aspects as follows:
Quality Assurance
Due to the diversity and complexity of oil casing usage scenarios, we must supply qualified steel grades according to customer order requirements. Only when the steel grade meets the standard can the actual application performance of the product be qualified and meet the engineering acceptance standards.
2) Compared to ordinary carbon steel pipes, the production and processing processes of OCTG are more complex, which puts higher requirements on manufacturers. Advanced production technology can improve the mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and deformation resistance of petroleum casing.
3) The inner and outer surfaces of OCTG must meet the requirements and must not have cracks, wrinkles, delamination, or scars.
4) OCTG also provides couplings with tapered threads, parallel threads, etc., which are safe and convenient.
