What is Plate Flange?

Plate flange is the most familiar type of flange, the common pressures include PN2.5, PN6, PN10, PN25 etc. Plate flange is usually used for the connection of pipelines which transport mild medium such as compressed air and circulating water in low pressure. And its price is cheap, installation cost and labor cost are all low.
Plate flange is typically applied to connect the pipes with low pressure not more than 2.5MPa. It also can be matched to a variety of flanged low-medium pressure valves such as gate valves, check valves, ball valves and so on.

The types of plate flanges

Plate flange with flat sealing face (FF)
Plate flange with flat sealing face (FF), is a flat circular disk that is welded to the end of a pipe and connected to the other pipe with bolts. It is specially allowed to used for low pressure pipelines 0.25~1.6 Mpa, two flat plate flanges can be bolted together with one gasket between them.

Plate flange with raised face (RF)
Plate flange with raised face (RF), is almost the same as the FF plate flange. The only difference is that there is a raised surface on one side above the bolt circle and the gasket will be placed on it. RF plate flange is appropriate for low, medium-high pressures and temperatures because of the raised face.

Stainless steel plate flange
Stainless steel plate flange, the common materials mainly includes ASTM A 182,A 240 F 304, 304L, 304H, 316, 316L, 316Ti, 310, 310S, 321, 321H, 317, 347, 347H, 904L and so on. Stainless steel flange is very durable due to its material contents Cr, Mo, and other elements, which strengthen its resistance to oxidation and corrosion. It is used in pipework systems for connecting and attaching pipes, valves, pumps, and so on

Carbon steel plate flange
Carbon steel plate flange is the most common type and can be used in a lot of industries from construction to agriculture without any corrosion issues. It is quite durable and divided into different classes based on its chemical composition and mechanical property. Common carbon steel materials involve ASTM A105, ASTM A350 LF2, ASTM A181, A516 Gr.70, A36 A694 F42, F46, F52, F60, F65, F70 etc.

Alloy steel plate flange
Alloy steel plate flange, its materials have higher strength than other materials because they come into alloy with chromium, molybdenum or manganese to improve their mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and hardness. Those make them ideal choices for some special applications. The common materials mainly include ASTM A182 & A387 F1, F5, F9, F11, F12, F22, F91 and so on.

ASME B16.5 Plate flanges
Plate flanges in standard ASME B16.5, actually there are no this type of flange in this standard. But sometimes some customers from North or South American countries requested it, our factory, our approach is to remove the neck directly, for the other sizes will follow the dates of slip on flanges.
