What is Socket Weld Flange?
Socket weld flange is designed for small sizes of pipelines with diameter not more than 4 inch and are more common for 1/2 inch to 2 inch. This kind of flange has a sunken shoulder on one side in which the pipe can be inserted and welding on the top. This provides a smooth bore to allow the better flow of fluid or natural gas. Socket weld flange is considered similar to slip on flange.
Socket weld flange has a wide application range generally referring to chemical industries, shipping, petroleum, and natural gas etc. It is suitable for high pressure systems and pipeline systems with temperature from 20℃ to +200℃. Before proceeding the welding it is necessary to do some preparation such as selection of welding materials and technologies. Specially pay attention to assure the pipes and guarantee the welding quality.
Socket weld pipe flanges generally supplied with raised face, flat face, or ring joint face. Metleader manufactures socket weld flanges in many different materials including carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel. For common sizes such as 1 inch and 2 inch, which are stocked with large quantities, regular orders can be delivered at any time.
Classifications of socket weld flanges as standards
The production of socket weld flanges can be proceeded according to some international standards for example ASME B16.5 and JIS.
Classifications of socket weld flanges as sealing faces

Raised face (RF) socket weld flange
Raised face (RF) socket weld flange is the most common produced by flange factories. This kind of sealing face allows the use of a variety of gaskets including flat ring type and metallic composite, such as spiral gasket, flat gasket PTFE etc. The goal of socket weld flange RF type is to concentrate the pressures on the small areas of flanges to improve the sealing strength.

Ring joint (RTJ) socket weld flange
Ring joint (RTJ) socket weld flange is considered a strengthened sealing face of RF. There is a ring groove in the raised face where a backup ring can be placed to obtain better sealing performance. RTJ type due to its special feature is usually applied to high pressure flanges with CL600, CL900, CL1500 and CL2500. And it is very suitable for high temperatures as well.
Socket Weld Flanges Applications
| Application industries | Functions |
| Pipeline system | Connection for the pipes and fittings in the pipeline system. |

Quality Assurance
1) Raw material testing: Conduct chemical analysis and inspection of flange raw materials and retain the certificate
2) Cutting and blanking: Cut the raw materials into forged blocks of different sizes according to the specifications of the socket weld flange.
3)Tensile properties: hardness index (specified non-proportional elongation stress, specified total elongation stress, specified residual elongation stress, yield point, tensile strength)
4)Finished product inspection: Inspect the size and appearance of the finished flange
5)Surface treatment: Clean and anti-rust the flange surface.
